Effective loop quantum cosmology as a higher-derivative scalar-tensor theory
(21 pages)

A large class of higher derivative scalar field theories which reproduce the effective Friedman equations of loop quantum gravity and discussed, and it is noted that these belong to the family of mimetic theories which allow for bouncing solutions.

Non-singular bouncing cosmologies in both mimetic and more general Galileon scalar field theories have received much attention lately, providing an interesting conceptual departure from more conventional Big Bang pictures of the early Universe, and presenting many unanswered theoretical puzzles. Here, it is shown how the low energy effective theory of an underlying loop quantum gravity could give rise to the mimentic model proposed by 1612.05860 (and also generalizations thereof), all of which can seemingly accommodate non-singular bounces.
